Platelet Rich Plasma – PRP
PRP is one of the latest advancements in skin rejuvenation, which uses plasma taken from your own blood to help boost skin healing, among other benefits. The result is healthier, more radiant skin. PRP can also be used as a hair loss treatment and to treat acne scarring.
PRP at Adonia Medical Clinic
Your blood’s plasma can help with faster healing and skin repair, as well as reducing signs of ageing, such as lines and wrinkles.
PRP may be recommended for:
- Ageing: the treatment stimulates collagen and elastin, two key proteins which help keep skin supple. The result can be smoother, tighter skin.
- Hair loss: PRP injections may help prevent hair loss and boost growth, resulting in visibly thicker hair.
- Injuries: from sports injuries and muscle sprains to arthritis and post-surgery repair, it’s possible PRP could help boost the body’s response to healing injuries.
- Acne scarring: the rejuvenating nature of the treatment can help rejuvenate and repair the skin.

frequently asked questions
How can PRP treatment help me?
There are lots of things PRP can help with, from hair loss to acne scarring, but we often carry it out as an anti-ageing facial aesthetics treatment. It can help with sagging skin, lines and wrinkles, scarring.
What happens during an appointment?
A blood sample is taken, and the plasma is separated in a machine called a centrifuge. The plasma, platelets and growth factors are then re-injected into the affected area(s). Treatment typically takes around an hour, owing to use of the centrifuge machine. Numbing agents can be used to keep you comfortable throughout your treatment.
How long do results take?
With PRP, results can be seen in 24 hrs with a peak at 6 weeks.
How long do the results last?
You can expect results to last up to a 3 months, however a course of treatments is often recommended to prolong and maintain your results.
- Will I need other treatments?
Are there any risks related to PRP treatment?
Because your own platelets are being re-injected into your skin, there’s no chance of allergic reactions. However, injections always come with a slight risk of pain and infection.
What is the recovery time?
Some temporary swelling and redness may occur a day or two after your treatment, as well as some small bruises, but these should subside very quickly. Minimal-to-no downtime is expected from PRP, although if you’re treating an injury, you may need to follow your doctor’s advice for rest or exercise.
What will my results look like?
The skin will look more radiant and may feel tighter, firmer and smoother too, since the treatment helps target laxity and lines. Because the treatment aids skin healing and rejuvenation, results can be long-lasting – especially with a course of treatments.
How do I care for my skin afterwards?
As with most procedures involving needles, heat treatments (saunas, spas etc.) are a no-go, as they can cause swelling and discomfort. Alcohol and aspirin should be avoided in the 24 hours following your treatment, and smoking in general should be avoided, as it can disrupt the natural healing process. We also suggest gentle exercise only, to prevent swelling and excessive sweating.
